There are many mistakes and shortcomings to avoid. We would love to share the most powerful tips and tricks, so you can create your best resume ever and get your dream job.

5-6 seconds. That’s the average amount of time a recruiter scan your resume and make a decision. You’ve got this time to make sure your resume makes an impact and doesn’t end up in the trash. To accomplish that, you need to know what is the difference between a resume and a CV?

Curriculum Vitae

is Latin for “course of life”. In opposite to CV, a resume is French for “to sum up”. The CV is primarily popular among academics. It represents a full history of your academic life and used by people seeking for grants, scholarships or any positions in post-secondary institutions. It is much longer than a resume.

In many European countries, CV is used to describe all job application documents, including a resume.

Resumes

are short documents. Usually, comprise only 1-2 pages in total and tersely list professional experience, accomplishments, and education. A resume typically focuses on work experience and emphasizes your skills.

 

Here is a resume structure:

 

Heading or Contact information.

In this field, you should include your first and last name, phone number, email, LinkedIn, socials, website, online portfolio. Use only full first and last name, avoid nicknames. Don’t include those things as a birth date, marital status, address, and photo unless it is required.

Summary or objective

is usually 2–3 sentences long and should be placed at the top of your resume, right under the contact information.

Work Experience.

  • Include only relevant experience that is related to the position you’re applying for.
  • Don’t use standard phrases like: did, made, used. Replace it with other words.
  • Developed, established, expanded, promoted, created, assisted, analyzed, managed, participated, trained and so on.

Education.

The type of degree you received, the name of your university, location and year you graduated.

Skills.

Add a skills section to your resume including hard skills and soft skills.

1.Don’t include a career summary that doesn’t match the job requirements. Key skills in your summary should match the job requirements otherwise leave it off.

2. Mindfully Edit Your Resume. Typos and grammatical errors can make you look unprofessional and unqualified. Please check each word. We realize that catching your errors is too hard. Therefore, you can ask someone you trust to review it for errors.

3. Don’t use clichés. The phrases that have been used too often that could be attributed to anyone. It no longer has much meaning and is not interesting. For example, communicative and responsible. Try to replace it.

 

 

 4. Brevity is the soul of wit: Your resume should not be too long or include too much information. Focus on the highlights. Make your resume as short as possible. It should be 1 or 2 pages. Use short paragraphs and bullets to enhance readability.

5. Avoid empty phrases. Use numbers, percents, sales figures, accomplishments, specific evidence to support your assertions.

6. Share any awards.  Highlight your achievements, not just outline your duties and responsibilities.

7. Cover Letter is a Must. A cover letter is the best way to apply to a job. It shows how much you are interested in the position, and it gives you a chance to talk to the recruiter directly. Remember: an effective cover letter will increase your chances of landing an interview.
